2022 Ultimate Fiji Soccer Cup set to kick off

It's less than 24 hours until the 2022 Ultimate Fiji Soccer Cup kicks off with players and supporters having landed in the beautiful pacific island nation.

Competition director Bruce Tilt has been on the ground for the past week and was a guest at the Pacific Community Cup final where Ba defeated Nadi 1-0 in front of a bumper crowd at Nadi's Prince Charles Park.

"It was good to come to Fiji a few days earlier than everyone else," Tilt said.

"On Sunday I was at Prince Charles Park to watch the Pacific Community Cup and there were some very talented players that could go on to do bigger things and go to New Zealand and Australia.

Tilt also had the chance to watch Fijian under-13 and under-15 development players as well as a senior women's game ad he was encouraged by the "enthusiastic" coaching on display.

The boys development (under-12s) and girls youth (under-14s) begin on Wednesday with games played at the Fiji Football Technical Academy in Ba, Lautoka's Central College and the Nadi Sangam School.

Tilt said he was delighted the tournament was back up and running after a two-year hiatus due to Covid, adding he was proud to see the partnership with Fiji Football continue.

"The Ultimate Fiji Soccer Cup as well as Fiji Football are very proud to come back out of Covid and start the tournament with the boys 12s and girls 14s," Tilt explained.

"In the second week will we have the senior women's competition begin which will feature the Fiji national women's team who are very excited to measure themselves against an Australian team."
